| Numbers |
Usually I don't care but when I care about it, what neat numbers I got! All the numbers you can think of did appear... 4, 13, and 8888! |

| Travian and me |
Have you ever wonder where this idiot here never update her favourite blog?
She is studying... WRONG!
She is seeing someone... WRONG!
She is Mapling.... WRONG!
The correct answer is, she is addicted to Travian.
If you do not know what Travian is, you should google it. Basically, it's a browser game that runs 24/7 and there will be a finale after 365 days. I stumbled upon it by accident and started playing it. I WAS a noob. Never bother about reading the guide/forum and joined a noob alliance/group/clan/whatever-you-name-it. I wasn't playing it seriously until one of the Top 10 players on the server started to attack me. Yea... it's a war game. Well, I wanted to see the finale so, I negotiate terms with the guy. He invited me to join his alliance which is one of the top alliances on the server that time. Dumb me didn't even realize that the alliance nominates in the South West quad while I'm in the middle of nowhere of the North West quad... So, I hopped onto the RATAN train and that's when my addiction started. I was heavily fired by RATAN's enemy, PACK, and was forced to learn a lot of things I never knew before. Now, if you are interested to know how good I am, I am now Top 5 ;)
Anyway, so when the finale ended this January, I thought I should quit and have a therapy or some sort. It didn't happen, I played again and ended up half-leading the RATAN alliance. So, yea... my roller coaster started on January 26, 2009 and will end in a year time. Everyday, my job is to log in, read the in-game messages, reply to those annoying complaints, settle those annoying land disputes, send out some attacks, have meetings with leaders of various levels lower than me... and the list goes on. I can barely differentiate between real life and Travian now.
I never thought browser game could be this exciting. The attack/defense part is fun but the micro-managing part is hella annoying.
I never thought I would chat with random people on the internet. People from different walk is interesting but complaints are hella annoying.
I never thought I could be so into a game. Smashing a big hammer on someone is so fun but staying awake at 3am to feed hammer/reinforcements is hella annoying.
I never thought I would spend so much time on a game. It keeps me entertained during winter but restricting my summer is hella annoying.
PS: If you want to play with me, tell me first! I will help you to not start out as a noob! |

| bored #2 |
I am B.O.R.E.D again because my code is working and running while I wait for it to spit an output for me every hour and then jot down the output and wait for another hour to get enough output to be my next input. So, it's just basically sitting here to copy and paste and then wait again. Writting my thesis is slow because I am unsure what to write next. There doesn't seem to be a lot to talk about. So, Derek was expecting this to happen to me because my question is short and his answer is also short and so, how long could my sentences be in describing the whole process. The funny thing is I actually know what to do with his "yes" and "no" answer... Is that a good news? or a bad one?
Oh well, I will eventually figure out what to write. Reading into tonnes and tonnes of papers to dig out what more I can talk about. I really admire those who can write 30+ pages of wisdoms. |

| grumble grumble |
So, it's 3.06pm here and I am B.O.R.E.D. Apparently Derek is busy today and I am left to do my own stuffs. We were supposed to have a meeting but never schedule one for this week. So, now I am sitting here, waiting for my simulation to run. One iteration takes roughly 2 hours and hell I know how many iterations it will take to converge. Even if I set the maximum number of iteration to be 1000. 2000 hours later will be 2+ months later. I am prying into every single corner to see if I can cut down the runtime... no luck so far... I want to get this done soon and see if I can book a flight home. It's full of uncertainty now that I can't tell when I can be home. High chance I could be home in July and August but flight ticket is just too expensive for a peon like me. The worst comes, I will just visit my Home #2 in Ontario.
Who said we have freedom as grad students? More like a peon.... |
